In a surprising collaboration that challenges traditional expectations, Ubisoft has announced an in-game collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected Thanksgiving event runs from November 25 through December 22, providing free bonus story content for Shadows players.

Peculiar Questline Revealed

According to the authorized release, "A mysterious encounter leads protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a new mission, where whispers of banned ceremonies and fearsome transformations echo through the darkness." The plot presents a "unusually attired woman named Ada" who charges the duo with venturing into the Crystalline Cavern—a key location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her companion from a clandestine group.

The questline focuses on "bizarre tests and a fearsome adversary" and is accessible to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Settings and Transformations

The teaser showcases the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This important location was previously where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through ages. The preview finishes with a powerful sequence showing a character, presumably the hostage, transforming into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.

Exclusive Rewards and Bonus Features

Players who finish the mission will obtain an exclusive katana together with several artifacts hidden throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also includes purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:

• Titan-based outfit for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Special arms
• Survey Corps steed

Latest Free Story Update

This release also introduces the game's third complimentary story episode, titled "A Puzzlement." This lighthearted mission teams Naoe and Yasuke as they trade signature skills: Naoe introduces a performative variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-fatal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Mystery" also includes a fresh environmental puzzle that may eventually clarify some lingering questions from the main storyline.

This marks hardly the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with famous anime franchises. The series previously included a 2020 crossover story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga.
